Thanks for your answers,Pete.
My main reason for asking these questions is that I am on Contribution-Based ESA and my payments will stop in April 2012 because I worked hard for 46 years in physically-demanding low-paid manual jobs, paid into a bit of a pension plan and tried to save a few bob when I could easily have blown it all (just like some of my now-better-off mates).
Anyway, looking on the bright side, at least I'm still here (unlike some of my more unfortunate mates)!

Just to add, if read page 15 onwards of the guide 'Three ways to get into the support group' this explains how one can be placed into the Support Group.

Hi,

Sorry about cross posting my replies above.

Sadly should the Welfare Reforms Bill 2011 currently going parliament become law in its current form, then yes, after 12 months including the Assessment Phase and Contributory Based Work Related Activity group, ones payments would cease if one would not qualify for Income Related ESA.

Even at this late stage it may still be possible to lobby ones MP however it is unlikely to change in reality unless 'their Lordships' really force through changes in the Upper House.

Might it be better to lobby the Lords at this stage?
