Hi, I hope I am in the correct place to send a question and to recieve some advice from this forum as regards my daughters refusal of re -newal for her DLA

My daughter was born with with congenital cateracts which were removed when she was a baby and they discovered early on that she had Glaucoma and on advice of her Consultant we claimed DLA for her and were successful. Her Glaucoma is quite complex and so far she has had 23 operations of varying degrees because of her condition and has had cutting edge technology applied with the grafting on of donor schelera patches and the fitting of tubes into her eye balls to drain the fluid build up away and to stabilise the pressure, obviously the pressure needs to be kept at a certain level or there is a strong possibility of permanent blindness.

I recieved a letter today about her claim stating that she was not entitled to DLA anymore, seems that once your 16 you are cured which if was the case then I would be over joyed.I just fail to see how suddenly she doesnt qualify for anything whatsoever.I will be asking them to look at the decision again and will take it to its inevitable conclusion of an appeal where she will no doubt be interrogated. In the meantime if anyone has had a similar case with Glaucoma and could advise me in any way then I would be ever so grateful. If I have posted this in the wrong place then would it be possible to let me know .Thankyou all

I hope someone with similar experiences will reply to you, but in the meantime, the RNIB has a factsheet on DLA which includes some help on the things you might take into account when applying for DLA for sight loss.

Also, don't forget that it's the care ando/or mobility needs that the DLA is paid for, not the condition.

when my son/daughter turned 16, we had to re-apply for DLA/motablity for both off them, they were awarded DLA?motablity as youngsters, we recived a letter before they turned 16 saying we (they) needed to re aplly.
