retirement age

As I am 58 next May surely I am too near retirement age to be going through all this IB-ESA trauma. Am I right in thinking that the transitional period has not yet been approved in parliament yet but the DWP are already acting on it ?

I am in the same boat as you Milly, and I am also the same age as yourself. And, as much as I would like to believe that I would be left alone, as after all, it would be a tall order for someone of my age to get work, even if they weren't sick. But the facts seem to be, that we will not get our pensions till I'm nearly 65 at the present(Should have been 60, and that was a Labour Government that changed that), and will be expected to look for work if found fit for work.

My only hope is that the whole ESA transfer fiasco will come crashing down due to the enormity of the task, as well as the huge backlog of appeals, and that the DWP will leave people in our category alone. Well, you can but hope.

There are no jobs, and certainly none for the older people, so play them at their own games and DEMAND a job!

I believe that that earlier posters on this thread may not be fully up-to-date with the Govt's changes to state retirement ages. Their dates may be even further away than suggested for people "58 next May". Both men and women born on 6 November 1953 will be eligible aged 65 years, on 6 November 2018. If born 6 Dec 1953, then eligible aged 65y 3m, on 6 March 2019. If born 6 Jan 1954, then eligible aged 65y 4m, on 6 May 2019. If 6 born 6 Feb 1954, then 6 July 2019, aged 65y 5m. If 6 March 1954, then 65y 6m, on 6 Sep 2019. If born 6 April 1954, then eligible 6 Nov 2019, aged 65y 7m. If born 6 May 1954, then eligible 6 January 2020, aged 65y 8m. If 6 June 1954, then on 6 March 2020, aged 65y 9m. If 6 July 1954, then 6 May 2020, aged 65y 10m. If 6 Aug 1954, then 6 July 2020, aged 65y 11m.
