Recording of WCA interviews withdrawn by DWP

I have just received a phone call from Atos Nottingham that recording of WCA interviews has been cancelled. This has apparently come from the DWP, not that Nottingham Atos doesn't have a machine. The caller couldn't add much detail to this referring me to DWP "customer services".

I then said that I would make a recording and the caller responded that Atos would not now be sending a doctor out to see me and would be passing my case back to the DWP Benefits people.

Cancelling the recording of interviews doesn't surprise me; it always seemed likely that Grayling would do that once it became popular or inconvenient.

Where do we go next to get fair interviews?

As I have said before on posts on this subject, we are in untested waters at the moment, and until the DWP and/or Chris Grayling make a response, we are not in a position to advise.

I am concerned at the outcome of your conversation with ATOS, at the risk of further worrying you, the fact that ATOS are returning your file to the DWP may well mean that they are classing you as failing to attend the medical for technical reasons.

If this is the case, the DWP should, but may not, write to you to ask your reasons for failing to attend, however, we are aware of claimants where this has not happened and their claims have been closed.

I strongly recommend you seek face to face advice, see

Where to get advice?

in the hope that you can head this situation off.

I got the same, nottingham ATOS centre, call yesterday.

This is confirmed and happening, we could be waiting months for it to be made official.

Hi and thanks for replying. I was real worried to see Gordon's reply as my IB is my only income. Earlier today I phoned DWP and spoke to someone in the unit processing IB>ESA. He said he knew nothing about DWP withdrawing cameras but was getting someone to phone me back.

I've just had that phone call. DWP have assured me that my benefit will not stop (no, I'm not totally naive and don't trust them) and if Atos returned my papers she said they would be sent back for them to reorganise. I can't be deemed to have failed to attend an interview when Atos haven't even organised a date to come and see me.

The woman from DWP also seemed confused about the cancellation of interview recording and said it might just be Atos. I got the distinct impression that she was unimpressed with Atos.

Chris29, sorry you're in the same boat. The woman who rang sounded as if she had a list of people to phone and I was number zillion and 1. Presuming I continue to get IB paid, I'm inclined to wait and see what happens. It may take months to get an interview and who knows what might happen. I might find a friend with shorthand skills - wonder what Atos might think about that! When I get a bit of strength up I'm going to write to my MP for what its worth.

I'm perhaps more concerned by something I read that Atos reports will no longer be available. If true, and recording stopped, and legal advice stopped, that big s*** Grayling is
really pushing to close up every possible way of getting help to appeal. Maybe he'll just abolish appeals altogether to get his savings.

Regards
David

This thread has been locked because in other threads relevant to the recording of medical assessments, the topic has developed into speculation, and as has been said to members already, B & W is unable to comment authoritatively on any matter which is open to conjecture.

Please refer to the topic as listed in the Spotlights section on the recording of medical assessments. Do not post any further discussion on this issue in this forum as posts will automatically be deleted.
