GL24: Couple Of Questions was created by YoursTruly
Hello,
I hope to post off my appeal form this afternoon, or tomorrow morning at the latest. Before I post it, I would like some advice on a couple of points.

I have used the template in the guide. On the subject of examples, should I give just one, and leave the others for the submission and oral hearing? My personal feeling is that I would be better off giving a fuller explanation in person. I believe my chances of being placed in the support group would be greater.

After a brief look at the medical report, there are errors and misunderstandings. The main error being that I did not walk normally at the medical. Should I point these out now, or again wait for the submission?

Much of what I wrote on the ESA50, seems to have been ignored. I am rushing to get the GL24 in before my last IB payment, so that there is no gap between the payment and being placed on the assessment rate.

I have had a rough couple of days, and at the moment, I do not feel physically up to writing full details of my reasons on the appeal form.

Is it ok to send it in now?

Many thanks,
YT

It's really upto to you, the things to consider.

Do you believe that you can overturn the original Decision during the Reconsideration part of the appeal process? If you do then you can submit detailed reasons with the GL24 or a short time after. If you are waiting on further evidence, there can be good reason to sending everything as one packet (seperate from the GL24).

You should have a 4 week window to send in anything regarding a Reconsideration, although this may be longer, due to delays in the system at the moment.

If you do not believe you can get the Decision overturned at Reconsideration, many claimants are in this position due to problems getting additional evidence within the timescales, then there may be no value in going into detail on your GL24.

Don't forget that you also need to supply Fit Notes from when your IB payments end, in order to receive the ESA assessment rate while you wait for a hearing.

Thank you, Gordon.
I am unable to see my GP until mid-August at the earliest. He is supportive, but I do not know what evidence he is willing to provide. I think that I at least need to see him first.

Given that one of the main points of my case is my limited mobility, for which I scored zero-the HCP wrote that my walking was normal, a point on which I disagree strongly, I suspect that a Reconsideration may not be successful.

If, as you say, I can submit reasons for Reconsideration within a four week window, then I can at least avoid the pressure of doing it all today.

On that point, does the four week window commence from the date on the original decision, or from when I send in the GL24?

Should I include on the GL24 that I reserve the right to offer reasons in addition to those on the form?

As I said in my reply above, I cannot get to see my GP unti mid-August-he is going on annual leave. He has given me a fit note for two months, but he signed it a week before my IB ceases.

Is this going to be a problem?

No, this is not a problem, the key thing is that you are covered from when your IB payments stop, which this note does. You will need to provide Fit Notes until a new Decision is made.
