Banging my head off a brick wall!! was created by Allen
Hello I am 58 and for the first time in my life I am claiming ESA (CB) - I have been working all my life, dont have a company pension and was fired on the grounds of ill health in Jan of this year. I have a life threatening illness, have a mental health problem, on a ton of medications which I am resisting so since my illness was picked up 19 months ago its has slowly got worse with periods of hospitalisation during this time.

I have resistant hypertension and am a long time depressive, my sight is deteriorating, I have high intensity brain lesions and have an adrenal aneurysm and attending hospital to see my consultant. My BP is so high all the time that I can go to A&E anytime and get admitted to hospital - this is a good party trick if it was not so sad.

Just had a letter from DWP stating that my benefit runs out shortly and what plans am I making for a return to work!!

Hi A,

Sorry to hear of your problems.

Unfortunately receipt of Contributary ESA in The WRAG is limited to 365 days.

If you feel that you now qualify for entry to The Support Group of ESA where there is no such 365 day entitlement limit, you could request a supersession ( revision) of your WRAG award.

A late appeal can also be made upto 13 months after an adverse decision if you can show just cause for this late appeal.

It would not suffice to try and gain entry to the Support Group, simply because your Contributary WRAG ESA is coming to an end.

Have you read our FAQ's and guides, see :
