If someone is placed in the support group for ESA how long is it before they have to go for another medical? Surely if someone has a chronic condition which is not going to get better, they shouldn't have to keep going for medicals every 5 mins?

I am appealing on my ESA as I have placed in the work related group. Who can I have as my representative? Any advice would be grateful received.

Also saw the Panorama and Dispatches programme recently about sickness benefit. Why are genuine sick people being made to feel they are doing something wrong, this government should be ashamed of themselves.

Hi t026,

Unfortunately, the whole ethos of ESA is that the recipients face regular reviews.

Claimants placed into the SG should theorectically receive longer prognosis, and therefore have longer periods between reviews.

The longest SG award that I am aware of is 3 years, have you read ? :

How often will I be reviewed

Just to add regarding your question about a "Rep", you can literally nominate anyone that is willing to represent you.

It is obviously advantageous if you can gain representation from a professional from an advice agency such as Citizens Advice, or DIAL, see :

Where to get advice?
