I am to attend a medical in two weeks time for assrssmentof % disability following an industrial accident. The accident resulted in post traumatic stress disorder. Does anyone know how these medicals are carried out or have any advice for preparing? :(

As moderators, Industrial Injuries is not a benefit that we can deal with.

However, see Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (accidents) and seek advice from a welfare rights organisation that deals with Industrial Injuries.

Hi, my Brother Gets industrial injury's benefit, I have attended his medicals for the past 20yrs first thing keep calm and don't fret. They will want to know how you were before your accident and how you differ now and how your PTSD impacts on your life, I.e. panic attacks, depression, mood swings , how you interact with friends, family, how it affects your ability to work, if you get easily tired or cannot concentrate, if you suffer flashbacks or intrusive thoughts, if you have sleep problems, you may get angry, you my need alcohol tell them, do you no longer enjoy hobbies as you did before, do not bottle things up tell them how it is.

Sit down and write down how your were before PTSD blighted your life and how you are now, also ask a family member or friend to write down how you differ, we don't always see it, hand it to the Doctor and tell him this is to be added to the evidence you give just in case you forget or emotionally breakdown.
Best wishes T.C

Kath,

Just an afterthought. Did you receive any compensation for your accident ? If so, then it's possible that the DWP's Compensation Recovery Unit could 'claw back' some of any Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit awarded. See GL27- Compensation, social security benefits and or lump sum payments
