Hi

I am also on very strong painkillers (morphine sulphate) and I made sure I put this first on the medication question as it is probably the most significant pill I take for side-effects and I made sure I listed all the side-effects that I suffer from, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, sleepiness, disorientation etc.

You could also underline it or use a highlighter pen. The Atos people have to trawl through lots of forms every day so you need to make sure your friend's stands out. If you both feel her medication will affect her ability to do a job then make sure you state this as clearly as you can.

One word of warning though they can check up on your with your GP to see if any side-effects of her medication have been mentioned, I actually have an allergy to morphine and it causes me very distressing itching and I had to try various types, patches, liquid, 4 hourly tablets, until now I am on slow release 12 hour tablets twice a day. They could check with the GP so try not to fabricate or exaggerate any symptoms as this could go against your friend.

I am not suggesting you would but don't give them any ammunition. Good luck.

Many thanks for your replies.

Would it be of any benefit to put the effects of the medication with the relevant descriptors, ie, Physical functions, moving and using steps.

The medication side effects such as dizziness has lead to falls and stumbles whilst trying to walk or use steps, but one would also not be able to use a manual wheelchair due to the side effects mentioned.

And would it be worth highlighting that because of this you believe(with supporting evidence) qualify for S/G, and continue with this throughout the form where relevant.

Thanks.

Hi R,

Limitations that can be tied in to the qualifying descriptors are just as relevant if they are as a result of side effects suffered by the need to take necessary prescribed meds, as they are if as a result of the medical conditions themselves.
