Wasn't as bad as I expected!

I just wanted to say 'thanks' to B&W for their ESA guide which I used when filling out my form.

A few months ago I spent a week or so in hospital and came out to a letter from the DWP telling me I was being transferred from IB to ESA. I'd heard some horror stories so was a little apprehensive. The letter said I needed to phone them up and I don't know whether it was the operators place to but he almost implied that the ESA50 form would just be a formality. I told them that I was just out of hospital and also that filling out forms is pretty draining so they could send me a claim pack but that they'd get it when they got it - and that may well be late. I used the PDF version of the ESA50 form so that I could save it and do a little bit every so often. When I did eventually send it back it was indeed a couple of weeks late. I sent an email to my GP telling him to expect to be asked to supply evidence and mentioned I was dreading the outcome as I'd heard so many horror stories about people being told they're fit to work and then dropping dead - when he got the email he phoned me up to say that it was so clear cut I was worrying myself over nothing.

Anyway, fast forward six weeks or so after sending back the claim form (be warned, my print-out didn't fit in the envelope supplied - so there was an even longer delay by the time they sent a large envelope) a brown envelope arrived today, instantly recognisable as being from the DWP, and it said that my transfer was complete and I was in the support group - even although I knew that technically I should have absolutely no reason to worry I had just heard so many horror stories that a tiny part of me thought that I might have to go through the ordeal of going to a medical etc. Fortunately I didn't, and that may be because of the guides.

If, as it appears, you gained access to The SG without the need for a face to face, and you wish to know the expected length of your SG award before you are reassessed once more, you should request your ESA85A medical report.

This should contain the "prognosis" ( expected length of the award) it may also indicate how and why you gained access to The SG, which may be useful when it comes to any future assessments.

You can request the above over the phone, by ringing the local DWP office address on your SG award letter, we also recommend that you back up this verbal request in writing.

You can also ask for an ESA72 report, this confirms the group you are in and also tells you the date of your next assessment.

We are aware of the existance of the : ESA72 Form .

However, currently we are not fully aware of when it may be used, and therefore available for a claimant to request.

I good default may be to request it anyway.
