Hi all
I have had a look through the vast amount of topics you have information on but could not find anything
to answer my following question. Apologies if i missed anything.
I am currently in receipt of a small amount of ESA (IR) which was reduced £ for £ due to me accessing an ill health retirement pension. I have now realised after mzking enquiries about another small company pension that I can access this which would then wipe out the small amount of ESA (ir) i am currently in receipt of. I am also aware that a small lump sum would be made available too.
My question is if it would be wise to tell the DWP about my pension now and therefore have my ESA cancelled . Or should I wait until I am in receipt of it ? If I were too wait then the questions start about the lump sum and then bank statements are requested etc. I have simply had enough of the assessments , hastles, form filling and phone calls and decided I want rid of this noose around my neck. many thanks in advance

Hi p,

I would obviously advise that you get face to face advice on this :

Where to get advice?

However, as you do not have to report a change in circumstances until such a change occurs, there would be nothing wrong with waiting until everything is sorted out, and you have the necessary paperwork to provide to The DWP, start date of pension, amount of pension, any lump sum amount, etc, etc.

A word of caution though, I do believe that if you choose not take up an Occupational Pension, from the earliest date that this may be possible, you can be deemed to have been in receipt of it, since that time, this may obviously cause an overpayment of benefit, and other possible implications.

This is why I recommend that you seek professional face to face advice.
