I have been on long term Incapacity since 1990 and completed an ESA50 last July to be transferred. Almost eight months on I still hadn't heard a thing then last week I got a letter from the reassessment team saying that my benefit is changing to ESA and I will be advised in due course of the rates of ESA that I am entitled to. There was no mention about a medical assessment or as to whether I have been placed in the support or WRAG group. To confuse matters more, I received a letter today from the job centre saying I have recently been transferred to ESA and that I will have to attend a series of interviews with an Employment Service Advisor. Can anyone tell me what the correct procedure is after completing ESA50 form? Is the reassessment team supposed to inform me at this stage as to which group I am being placed in? Was the form from the job centre just a general letter sent to everyone transferring to the new ESA benefit?I am still filled with anxiety as to what is going to happen with my benefit! I used the benefits and work guides and gave extensive detailed answers along with reams of medical evidence so am hoping I am placed in support group. Should the reassessment team have informed me by now and what exactly are they supposed to send to let me know which group I will be in? Anyone? thanks. EB

The DWP are obliged to give you written conformation of the decision they have made about your ESA. Like all things DWP, they can be rather tardy with this and the letter, when it does come, can take a while to decipher.

As you have been contacted by JCP about a Work Focussed Interview, it sounds as if you might have been placed in the WRAG. In your case, I think I would phone DWP and ask which group I was in. Mind you, we have also heard of people being told absolute rubbish over the phone too!

You will have one month from the date of the letter in which to lodge an appeal, if you wish to, so it is in your interest to make sure that this has not got lost en-route.
