PIP -ATOS homevisit assessment query was created by bozomeister
Hi, have one of these scheduled for wed. week. My query is how and why are home visits chosen and what to watch out for. Further, is it beneficial to have som e sort of layman friend to be present or are there professional/expert witnesses that could be contacted to support and advise or be present at my home for this?
all infirmed replies much appreciated. :)

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

A home assessment is an acceptance that your disabilities are severe enough to prevent you attending at ATOS's offices but this does not mean that it is accepted that you would score points.

There's a section in the PIP Claim guide that covers the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked.

I think that having someone with you is important, sometimes members have been able to get one of the health care professionals that support them to attend, but this is very unusual and most people have to make do with a relative or friend.

If you have more questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.

Thanks for your kind reply Gordon,
looks like i shall require a friend to be present then.
Given distance and time left it is unlikely to be able to a health proffessional that knows me. Are there independent expert advocates for such i might be able to hire?

You can try an internet search or contact an organisation that represents people with your condition (for instance RNIB for people with visual deficits or MIND for those with mental health problems).

Hi again,
thanks for your kind reply.
to be honest i find it strange that they have unasked given me a home visit, given that its my acute breathlessness/mobility incurred from my serial severe historic heart and lung disorders that are my PIP application (from former lower rate DLA) primary component points with mental health secondary and accounting for potentially 1 pt. Consequently, i'm rather bemused and a little paranoid given the home visit which i'd assume lends itself to mental heath assessment as opposed to mobility?

Home assessments are done for a variety of reasons including physical restrictions, a friend ha one and only has physical conditions, no mental health issues at allo.
