Carers element was created by asifa78
My Son is my full time carer he gets carers allowance and universal credit.
I've just heard of something called the carers element , what does this mean and is he eligible? Thanks in advance

He should check but he should already be receiving this as part of his UC if he is receiving Carers Allowance, if he isn't then there may be other problems as the CA is treated as income for UC and should be deducted and if this has not been happening then there will be a recoverable overpayment.

He needs to check.

If he is receiving CA then he is entitled to the Carers Element, if it is not being paid then it would imply that UC does not know about the CA and this could be a major issue.

Hi just thought I'd update. My son got this reply from basildon service centre

You are receiving this - please view your statement

Carer

You said that you are caring for someone.

£160.20

If hes getting carers allowance at £66 a week and £120 universal credit does that mean the 160 carer element is deducted. I'm really confused
I have asked for a statement explaining how they come to this sum as he has never recieved any letter from them.
