Working tax credit effecting my benefits if I work was created by Karisto
Hi everyone. I work part time for myself just 16hrs doing poster and leaflet design and printing, I'm getting wtc, but as the work has slowed down to a basic stop, I've been offered a part time job looking after a reception front office. The wage is £130.00 for the 16hrs. I'm in receipt of Housing Benefit and council tax benefit and pip totalling £119.00 per week. I've tried to use an online calculator and rang Turn to us, who verbally informs me that I will not be able to claim WTC. Could someone possibly enlighten me, I've tried to chat with WTC, whom stated they can't do anything until I start work, but the problem is, if I do will I be worse off and have to re claim, I'm totally confused, I really wish to take this job but scared it will make me worse off than I am currently. Many thanks in advance Karen

This is not an area of benefits that we advise on in the forum but I think your problem may be that you can no longer make a new claim for Tax Credits, you would have to claim Universal Credit unless your Housing Benefit includes the Severe Disability Premium.

Hi BWCC
You state that you are in receipt of WTC, therefore if you change jobs and providing you fit the qualifying conditions then it would be a change of circumstances and your WTC should carry on.
If your WTC has stopped and you want to make a new application, then as Gordon has stated you will now have to apply for Universal Credit as WTC is no longer available to new claimants.
Depending on your circumstances you will need to seek face to face advice to get full impartial advice, unfortunately from the information below there is not enough information to give full advice and as Gordon has stated this is an area of benefits on this forum we do not cover.
