what happens after submitting UC claim? was created by thedoublehazecraze
I've completed my universal credit claim and the next step is to submit the application.
However, it is not asking me to upload tenancy agreement? It doesn't ask specifically what country I'm from? It doesn't ask for NI number?
It doesn't ask me specifically about benefits I currently get (just a general do you get any of these benefits) ?
Why is it so general?I would've thought they check my previous information through NI number (I'm currently claiming ESA)
At what point do they ask me for more information and how can I give them documents whilst we are in lockdown?
Can anybody tell me their experience of what happened after they submitted the online claim?

Hi thedoublehazecraze
From your post I am not sure if you have applied online for UC as UC is digital by default. Make sure you apply for UC via the Gov website: www.gov.uk/universal-credit
When you apply for UC on line it will not let you move forward until you have answered all the relevant questions. Once you have finished the online application make a note of your id number, you will be sent an email via your Journal on your UC a/c from your workcoach and at some stage you may be asked to sign a claimant commitment.
You need to keep an eye on your Journal and 'To do list', most people get sanctioned because they have not completed their 'To do list'
All contact with your workcoach is done via your Journal.

Thank you Gary,
Yes it was all online. I just found it so odd that not enough information was asked?
I remember before when I tried to apply to local housing allowance they would ask you for your tenancy agreement and NI number but they have just asked the bare minimum in this UC application..

Hi thedoublehazecraze
It has been a while since I completed a UC online but the last time I did we had to put in NI number at the start of the process, you would not be allowed to continue until this section was completed, as you work your way through the online application form you had to complete each section before moving on to the next.
I can only assume to speed things up during lockdown this section has been removed but I have not read of any changes happening to the online application, so I cannot answer your query.
Tenancy details are confirmed via your landlord, in social housing they have a tenancy portal where messages are sent on a daily basis to confirm tenancy details, not sure how it works in the private sector.
