Will UC be triggered? was created by Asbo
Hello, a bit complicated, but I wondered if I applied for an arts funding for two years and was successful (which would be in lieu of my ESA) would this trigger UC? Would it be better to wait for managed migration? I live with my sister and don’t want to trigger UC for her as we are a household. She is only about 18 months off pension age anyway and I'm a bit more. Any help with our complex situation would be very helpful. Many thanks

Hi Asbo

Thank you for your question, it's an interesting question but unfortunately I do not have enough information to give you an answer.

What I would say is that your benefit entitlement is not linked to your sisters benefit entitlement, you are both eligible to benefits in your own name so anything you do will not affect your sister.

I would advise you to contact your local Welfare Rights Organisation who will be able to take all your circumstances into account to give you accurate advice. You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

Many thanks, Gary. I guess I meant that although my sister and I have separate benefits, we share a property so we're treated as one household for housing benefit. I will find out any further information from the link you gave.

Thank you, Gary. Yes we have separate benefit entitlements but we are a joint household for housing benefits

Hi Asbo

You need to check your tenancy agreement, quite often when siblings share the same house the tenancy is split 50/50.

I would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation who can check you tenancy agreement and HB paperwork to give you the correct advice.
