Contact from ESA work coach? was created by RedDog
Hello, just asking for advice please?
I was injured at work and have been on Invalidity, Incapacity Benefit and now in the support group of ESA since 1992. My last ESA review was in early 2014 and was kept in the support group.
I qualified for PIP in 2016 with full mobility and medium care and am due to be reassessed in 2026.
I was telephoned today by a chap saying he was from South End ESA department and a work coach would contact me in two weeks time to check up on some details? I explained my circumstances re support group but also the fact that in 3 months time I would be 66 and transferring onto my state pension and would no longer be claiming for ESA.
He said somebody would contact me anyway to check my details.
So, does this sound correct to you all? Surely, they wouldn't be conducting a review with just three months to go after all the evidence they've collected over the years?
I was thinking it may be a scam of some sort?
Thank you for any help that may be forthcoming.

Hi RedDog
You have to be careful with scammers, unfortunately they see the elderly and disabled as easy pickings.
If you are phoned out of the blue, be careful not to give any stranger your personal information such as your Name, Address, DOB and NINO. If they phone you then they should have all that information so switch tables, ask them what your name is, Address , DOB and NINO, they probably will not give it to you due to GDPR so you get to what is an impasse.
If you are concerned, call ESA to find out if the phone call was genuine.

Well, eventually got through to ESA who put me through to the job centre. It is a genuine call and apparently will be about checking my details before transferring me over to the state pension in three months. Shame they didn't explain that to me on the original call!
Thank you for your help.

Hi RedDog
Thank you for letting us know. At least now you can put your mind at ease knowing it was not a scam, it is better to be safe than sorry.
Depending on your circumstances you may be eligible to claim Guarantee Pension Credit; www.gov.uk/pension-credit
