A change in the ESA rate payable letter was created by medion4@live.co.uk
Hi
Received a letter from job centre plus stating from 17April 2021 my esa is £114.10. On the last page it says it will be paid until 3rd December 2021. I receive national contributionary esa and in the support group, is something changing in December with the Nat contrib ESA support group as I thought there was no time limit on this benefit.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Medion4, have there been any changes in your household, in other benefits or to your health?
Yes your ESA should continue and I would definitely give them a phone to query why it has this date.
Saying this sometimes you can get a few similar letters from them in the same week just to confuse you, so you may get different information on another letter!
I would still phone them though.

3 years 4 months ago #265544 by Moira Your right, Contribution based ESA and if you are in the support group doesn't stop. I am on the same I have just been contacted by the CAB about my recent email to them about the severe disability premium and how I am entitled to it. They previously said that I wasn't entitled to it but I emailed them again months later and I had a phone call from them saying that a lawyer has been contacted and he will be phoning me on Monday. I was sending my sick notes to the DWP but because of lockdown no one contacted me and I was forced to claim UC. I should have been given a transitional payment. If you are in receipt of PIP daily living and haven't worked for a year then you are entitled to the SDP. Also after a year you are in receipt of BOTH, contribution based ESA and Income based. It is very confusing but it can entitle you to a top up to your ESA. I've noticed that when you look online for Contribution based ESA there is no information, its only Income based that there is any information on. I found this out because I done a benefit calculation in January and I was told about the SDP and how I don't need to claim UC I can claim ESA and the SDP and how I would be much better off. Hope I've maybe helped you with this, definitely look into what you are entitled to. I'm not sure how mines is going to pan out, hopefully I will be put back on TC, I was in receipt of the disability premium and this is a legacy benefit which means that I should have been getting the SDP with my UC.

Thanks for your reply.
When I rang Job centre plus, they explained that they had received an extension of 12 months from DWP on my pip due to Covid, which I thought was odd as I have recently completed my renewal forms. Then in the middle of the conversation, they mentioned Sever Disability component of the ESA which was really odd to me as I thought because I was on contributory ESA it wasn’t something I was entitled too, I have also been receiving enhanced living component of PIP for past couple of years. Will have to wait and see.

Hi medion
That does seem odd, did you query with them about the SDP, are you receiving CB ESA with a Top up od IR ESA plus the SDP?
If you were in receipt of IR ESA top up, you would also be eligible to EDP as you receive enhanced daily living component of PIP

Hi Gary
I have no income related ESA and no top ups, which is why at the time I couldn’t make sense of the conversation until I read the previous post. It was a concern an end date for the £114 was going to be 3rd December, they confirmed on the call if this figure would change beyond that date I would receive a further letter otherwise it’s likely to stay the same amount beyond that date. The letter also said my insurance contributions had been reviewed. All that’s left for me to do is wait and see, which is never comfortable for me, if I do receive further letters, will update post.
