Well that was stressful, I got everything ready - had notes, my phones all set up and a drink, tissues etc........
then I get a call from the secretary to say the assessor is running behind so she will be another hour.
1 hour 10 minutes later the secretary phones back to say that the assessor is still running behind so should phone in the next 10 minutes.
She didnt phone until 35 minutes after that!

Hi AngelT,
I hope the assessment wasn't too bad. In a couple id days, make sure you phone DWP and ask for a copy of the PA4 (Assessment report). Dont be fobbed off you are entitled to this.
This should give an indication as to the likely outcome. If it seems you may need to ask for Reconsideration, then you can start to prepare this.
However, I hope this won't be necessary. Fingers crossed..
Let us know how you get on.

I cant help but think over the appointment and mentally kick myself so not saying things even though I had notes.
Like hobbies - she asked if I had any and I said not anymore but she didnt ask any further questions about it.
She asked if I could use a knife and fork and if I had any problems swallowing - but I was so upset by that time I forgot to say that when Im struggling to breathe eating takes me far too long to the point that any hot food has gone cold and I lose my appetite from the exertion of trying to eat and breathe.
I honestly could kick myself as now I feel these were vital bits of information.
As a side note I got a text from DWP to say they had my report so have been on the phone waiting for the past 28 minutes to get a copy of the PA4 report.

Hi AngelT
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, it is no use kicking yourself about what you should have said or not said.
Quite often we hear from members who have in their words had a disastrous assessment only to be awarded the enhanced component.
Once you get your PA4, go through it with a highlighter, highlighting any discrepancies.
Go through each descriptor one at a time why you disagree with the assessor and try and match it with any supporting documents you may have sent in.
Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say 'in my opinion' you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said., remember they are just an opinion which is not based on fact.
Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.
Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;
Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.
The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide, half way down the page for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.

Dear AngelT, let's hope the PA4 is fine. But if not you do not have to wait for a decision and start an MR; you can write ASAP to "The Decision Maker". In this letter coldly take apart just as Gary explains for the MR, all significant errors, omissions, twistings, referring to your evidence. Keep it neutral tone. eg "The assessor appears to have overlooked X piece of evidence..."
Worth it, if you still then get a wrong decision well you're well on the way to having your MR drafted, if it works as it did for our daughter, well you've got the right award without the appeal hassle!
Best,
Denby

I received the PA4 and honestly its cold, inconsiderate, missed vital information and I'm more than slightly pi$$ed.
She didnt listen to anything I said!
Her notes included very little of what I said.
Aside from that the fact that I had to wait an additional 1 1/2 hours for the phone call put me on edge and as the minutes ticked by along with her saying "take your time" in a huffy strict voice made me feel like I couldnt take my time.
She also put in the notes that I didnt appear to be breathless or wheezy. Well no "love" (she called me that at the beginning and it made my hackles rise in disgust) I'd been sitting on my bum waiting for her to call for nearly 2 hours so I wasnt as breathless than if I had just walked to the kitchen/bathroom before taking the call, but I was most certainly wheezing and got out of breath when talking for more than a few sentences!
I will wait for the cd recording to arrive to see if any of my wheezing did get picked up on, because it certainly did get picked up on on my recording! I hope it was because then I can time-stamp it and say "listen to the wheezing here" as proof!
I also had a call from their office to ask if I was happy with my call and I explained it all to him, expressed my disappointment, stress and anger caused by having to wait and wait for her to eventually call and how late the call was from the original 2.15pm appointment and the calls from the secretary.
I've started writing notes too.
Since the assessment appointment I have had an appointment with my dr at the Hospital's Lung Function Clinic and had my medication increased, I feel I need to put this into the notes too.
