Electric bike was created by david
Advice needed please
I have COPD and recently had a mini stroke that resulted with loss of ballance
Im on enhanced mobility and standard daily living benefits, i also have arthritis.
I've acquired an electric bike to get exercise, help with my ballance and continue my hobby of camping, the bike has full throttle control function so i don't have to pedal when im not up to it
I've looked at my discriptor, going out and moving about, the only aid thats in my discriptor are arm cruches to help me walk when out.
Both doctors, copd and stroke have said it would be beneficial to slow down the advance of the copd and help regain my ballance but still worry that my beneft would be reduced or even stopped and i lose my mobility car that is used for every day chores, doctoers, shopping and hospital visits.

Hi david,
I assume that you are referring to PIP mobility descriptors.
Mobility descriptor 1 largely deals with the concepts of going out to various places and coping with the logistics. Descriptor 2 is about physically moving around. The test deals with walking although this isn't necessarily obvious from the descriptor text. Although the words aid or unaided appear, this would mean something like a walking stick, crutches, zimmer frame, or even possibly a leg brace. It would not comprise an electric bike.
You haven't said whether or not you are completing a review. If this is just a general query there is no need to inform DWP you use this bike. If you are currently completing a review form or expect an assessment, there is no need to tell DwP as it is not relevant. However, be aware that the assessor may ask how you get about outside, and therefore you may need to say that you use the bike. But equally if you use the car to get about, you can just say you use a car, or get driven about etc. If you do mention the bike the assessir/decision maker may conclude that you could walk, so if this is discussed you would need to explain how you can cycle but why you still can't walk.
That said, even if eg you cycle to the shop, you will still need to dismount and walk to the shop and walk round to get what you need. Cycling will not negate the need for walking. Also, I suspect that you would not necessarily be cycling all the time.
But, as I said earlier you don't have to mention about the bike, unless somehow it is relevant to your walking ability, or by using this your walking ability actually improves. (Even then although you would need to disclose the improvement if it would mean you would be entitled to less points, you still wouldn't need to say it was because of the use of the bike.)
I hope this helps.
