Anyone had PIP assessments with this company?

My PIP forms were received on 13th January.
Today 10th February I have received a text message saying an assessment telephone appointment has been booked for 25th February at 8.15am (that'll be fun because I'm usually not "fully functioning" until around 1pm) and an appointment letter is in the post.
In the message it says I can find more information at mypipassessment.co.uk which takes me to a website called Independent Assessment Services then in smaller writing it says Delivered by ATOS.  They say on their website they dont usually record telephone assessments and if you want it recorded to contact their Customer Support.
I feel I should contact them once I receive the appointment letter and ask for it to be recorded.
Has anyone had any dealings with this company?
Their website make them all sound like "human" compassionate people but with all the horror stories I'm really stressing, I feel like I should be preparing for a war.
I plan to record the assessment myself using an old phone and having the call on "loud speaker".

Hi AngelT

The Independent Assessment Services formerly known as ATOS are one of the two firms that the DWP have contracted to do PIP assessments - the other being Capita. So lots of members have dealings with them. They may sound like 'compassionate' people, but I would not be deceived by that. Ring and ask for it to be recorded. They should agree to your request, but you may find that they change the date as assessors do not always agree to be recorded (which is their right).  You would be advised to take your own recording - just don't tell the assessor that's what you're doing, or your assessment will be stopped instantly.

Hi AngelT, everything BIS says about this lot is correct and I am very glad you plan to ask for a recording and do your own. Don't worry if you are not fully functioning as it just means they are less likely to get a false impression of how well you cope. Just follow the guidance in the guides eg have your copy of the form to hand and any notes of key stuff that must be mentioned.
I like to stick post-it tabs in all key places and take them off as I work through them on a call like that, but whatever works for you.
Best wishes,
Denby

HiAngelT,

All my PIP assessments have been conducted by IAS, or ATOS, as they are still so 'imfamously' known as.

I have only had one bad face-to-face experience with an IAS assessor In 2018.

WIthout going into too much detail, the assessor was a 'bad egg' so to speak, who was found out at the MR stage.

The best of luck with your assessment. I'm afraid I can't comment about telephone assessments as I have never had one.

Fingers and toes x'd for you.

All the best.

Regards,

Phrank.
