Volunteering on ESA was created by Fi
Hi, can anyone assist with a query?
My son is in receipt of ESA and has been found some volunteering work. He filled in the necessary form for DWP and sent it off but has no reply and this was months ago. He started volunteering anyway. Should we have heard back? He is autistic and has struggled with work so this was a great stepping stone.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Fi B
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.
Welcome to Benefits and Work
What you must do if you want to work
Before you start any work, whether paid or unpaid, you should fill in a PW1 form and send it to the Jobcentre Plus office that deals with your benefit.
DWP will then let you know if the work you want to do meets the permitted work conditions. If you do any kind of work that doesn’t meet the conditions, you could lose your benefit.
You need to chase up DWP to see what the outcome of the form he sent in, was the form a PW1 form? Did he send the form by registered post? We do have a guide on permitted work: www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/?dlp=621026800c8de

Hi Fi. If he returned the form he is covered as far as I am concerned. There are massive backlogs at DWP. I really wouldn’t worry x

Thank you for the help. I don’t think he posted it recorded delivery/signed for, but we will chase up a response asap. He had someone official put him in touch with the shop he volunteers at and did help with the forms. I will check the link you shared. Thank you for the reply..

Thank you Angel, that’s really helpful. I know they took months to get back to him over a previous query. We will chase up but will try not to worry in the meantime.
