DWP white envelopes was created by clearwater
This morning i received a DWP letter ( did not open it for an hour) informing me of the 2022 ESA Rate changes,

however it was white, not the Brown manilla i have received for last 18 years. Are all DWP letters now white.

Hi Clearwater,

I have heard others saying their rate change envelope was white.

Not sure all envelopes are /will be white but perhaps others can comment.

Regards
Pete

Hi clearwater,

Yes, all the correspondence I've received for a while have been in white envelopes. The first thing I do when I see a likely looking white envelope is to see if it says 'Belfast' on the back. If it does it's a DWP letter if not, it's not.

Perhaps claimants (like me) who previously suffered from 'White Envelope Syndrome' as well as 'Belfast' syndrome now only have to fear the latter.

Regards,

Phrank.

Hi Clearwater,

I don't know about other notification letters from the DWP but I also received the uprate letter in a white envelope.

I seen to remember reading some nonsensical commentary about the DWP responding to claimants' fear of the brown envelope landing on the doormat - they'll use white ones instead!

It would seem that the DWP cannot understand that it may be the distrust, anger, shock and disbelief often contained within correspondence from them that may be the problem......

Hi all

Re the DWP white envelope issue, from the horse's mouth itself (DWP twitter feed):

"Information for claimants:

From 5 April 2021, we will be making a change to some of the envelopes used to send you letters

You may receive some post from the Department in a white envelope rather than the usual brown (manila) envelope

Don't bin it, open it!"

For the full Twitter feed - or whatever its called - please click the following link, you don't need to have a twitter account to read it.

Invalid consumer key/secret in configuration

The reason the DWP have (elsewhere) given for this change is that owing to changes in the Post Office's automated envelope reading equipment the information is easier to read from brown envelopes. In my own case I've been receiving info - eg annual benefit uprating details - in white envelopes from the DWP for some time.

Kind regards

Mr B
