Carers Allowance: exceeding the earnings limit

Hello

My wife receives carers allowance. She works and is paid less than the weekly limit.

I know if she gets a pay raise, she will need to inform DWP and they will stop the CA.

My question is, if all her caring responsibilities stay the same and she later goes back to a lower wage (eg she reduces hours) must she claim CA from scratch. Or is there a way to suspend her claim?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Tadbir,

My thought is that they would likely require a new claim because they will like close rather than suspend the care claim.

It’s worth asking the question when you let DWP know and if I’m wrong then please shout out on the forum.

If they do end the claim it shouldn’t be too onerous to make a new claim.

Regards
Pete

Has your wife considered increasing her pension contributions? She can offset half of any pension payments in order to reduce her income, which may be a way of keeping her under the limit for Carer’s Allowance eligibility when she gets a pay rise.

Thank you,it's worth thinking about. She's not opted into her employer pension but it's something to ponder
