Esa and self employment was created by Sassy
Hi, I recently handed in my notice at my permitted work. I'm currently on esa support group. Will they now move me to universal credit?
Could I prevent this by going self employed and supplying this info on a pw1 form when I inform them of my leaving my job.
I have done an entitled to calculation and moving to uc is going to cripple me financially.
Thanks in advance and thank you for your previous advise.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Sassy
You will not be moved onto UC just because you stopped your permitted work. If you go self employed then that could mess up your benefit claims.
Before you do anything I would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation, who will be able to take all your circumstances into consideration; you can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

Hi Gary, thank you. I spoke to CAB this week and they said that stopping permitted work will instigate the UC transition. As this is not managed migration I will lose my legacy benefits rates. This is why I thought putting in invoices for permitted work allowance via freelance work available to me might help that not happen. I'm so confused right now...
Thank you..

Hi Sassy
I cannot see how stopping permitted work will instigate UC transition, but I will look into this and let you know when I find out.

Hi Sassy
I have checked out what CAB have told you about coming off permitted work will instigate UC transition. I can confirm as I suspected that what you were told is totally incorrect, when you stop permitted work it is just a change in circumstances for the ESA unless anything else is changing.

Oh dear how sad . CAB getting it wrong again [as we had years ago]. People are entitled to rely on this national service to which everyone is referred but it is not safe. Please Sassy if you do have time on top of dealing with life, feed back to that CAB branch that they misled you, to save it happening to someone who is not aware of B&W.
