PIP - How did DWP decide that £89.60/60 and £62.55/£23.70 are enough?

Hello

Can anyone point me to the decision-making process that arrived at the amounts below being enough to assist with all the things they're meant to?

What - for example - is the figure of £23.70 meant to enable you to do - and why £23.70?! That equates to £3.39 a day. I'm not sure how or what that is meant to help you to do...

PIP daily living component
Enhanced 89.60
Standard 60.00

PIP mobility component
Enhanced 62.55
Standard 23.70

I have googled extensively, but can't find info about how these seemingly arbitrary figures were arrived at. Because PIP applicants are understandably concerned with points and descriptors etc, all google search returns are overwhelmingly dominated by discussion of how to achieve the points, rather than what the award in designed to fund.

Thanks very much!

Raph

Hi Raph

You pose a very good question, unfortunately I have absolutely no idea, if you look at the legislation it may give you a clue.

Other forum members may be able to give you the answer.

Thanks Gary

I was hoping being the fount of wisdom that you mods are, you might just know! ;)

I could try downloading the legislation – from www.parliament.uk, yes? I took a quick look in the Commons Library, and found this page , but at first glance, it doesn't seem mention how the sums were arrived at - what they're actually based on.

Maybe I need to do a FOI request to the DWP? :S

If anyone else knows how the figures were arrived at, I'd really like to know, as atm it just seems completely arbitrary - and the 3.1% benefits rise in April won't even keep pace with inflation (projected by the BoE to reach 7.25% by April 2022 and unlikely to fall back for two years – but that's another topic altogether...)

Hi Raph

You have me stumped, I have done a bit of digging around but no success. I will seek advice from specialists to see if they have any idea, will let you know if I find out anything.

Nothing on Wikipedia under PIP, may have to look at DLA.
