New PIP claim - GP reports was created by Shopdoll
Hi,
I applied for PIP on line in October and supplied all my medical evidence including hospital report, blue badge assessment neuro-physio details etc. I had major surgery 11 weeks ago to debulk a rare brain tumour.
I received a telephone assessment date last week but I rang the assessors to request it be recorded. It resulted in my assessment appointment being cancelled and I now have no date! I I found out from this forum afterwards I could have just recorded it on my phone anyway. Sod’s law!
I had a call from my GP surgery yesterday asking me to make a telephone appointment with my GP because the DWP have contacted them for an “assessment” . GP wants to go through the form with me but first available appointment is in 4 weeks time.
Can someone please explain to me this process. I’m confused and it’s not helped the situation as I’m trying to focus on my recovery and I’m starting to worry over this.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Shopdoll
You were still right to ask them to record your assessment. Unfortunately, some assessors are refusing to be recorded (which is their right) which is why people suddenly find their appointments being cancelled.
It sounds like the DWP are trying to get extra information from your doctor. It also sounds like your doctor has your back in that they want to talk to you first. Good on your doctor - I wish there were more like that.
I can't stay exactly what will happen next. Hopefully, the GP will fob off the DWP until they have spoken to you and got enough information. It is possible that the information from the GP will be enough - though that is not a given. After they have the information from your GP I would expect them to contact you and say what will happen next. How long this will all take, I do not know.

Well I’ve now been sent a text saying I’m booked in for a video call next week. This will obviously be before my GP appointment on 7th April with my GP to go over the factual report form that was sent to her. Should I let the assessor know this and ask if they can wait until after they receive the report from my GP or will this go against me?
Thanks

Hi shopdoll
You have the right to cancel the appointment and ask for a new date after the 7th April. It won't go against you to cancel the appointment, however, you would have to accept the second date you are offered whether it is convenient or not. Sometimes they will shift around dates and sometimes they are not helpful. All you can do is ring and ask. If you are not able to get a change of date or you don't want one, make sure that you make it clear to the assessor you will be sitting down with your GP on the 7th (which was the earliest date you were offered) and you will be sending in additional evidence to be considered before the decision is made.

Please Shopdoll when you call them, be sure to repeat that you insist on having a recording of the assessment [even if it's only audio of the video call] They may have 'conveniently forgotten' your request! And if so, starting with that approach could well result in a further delay from their side anyway. That could give the time for your GP call-but if not, as BIS says do be clear with them about the situation.
If it goes ahead as a video but with only audio recording be sure to speak comments of any stuff that would otherwise be lost eg gestures, so it's on the CD. Better safe than sorry.
And don't forget in the relief after, to request the PA4 assessor's report. []Should be available after 48 hours] If it's wrong, you can write to 'The Decision Maker' ASAP to correct stuff you're not happy with BEFORE the decision gets made.
Best,
DEnby

Thanks. I’ll give them a ring today and update on here later. This is becoming quite stressful which is the last thing I need post surgery. I’m not sure I can even look at a screen on a video call in the first place for a an hour or so. I’m recovering from brain surgery and limit screen time due to headaches, fatigue and eye flickers!
