UCWRA Backdate was created by JCForone
Hello,

Last October, I was awarded PIP backdated to Jan of 2021 due to Chronic illness. My Chronic Illness has got rapidly worse since 2021.

I applied for UCWRA and I was initially supposed to get the form back in July and I had asked for it to be backdated to February 2021. I was too unwell to get the form back in July but I rang them a week before it was due and explained that I was too unwell to finish the form and get it to the Post Office. The DWP lady was sympathetic and said "Don't worry, get it in when you can. I will make a note here". I was sent a new form in September and I finially got that form in at the end of October 2021 and again asked that it be backdated to February 2021 and also made reference to being unable to get 1st form back to them in July.

I got awarded UCWRA in November and it was backdated 3 months which took it to end of July.

Can I ask for it be backdated to February 2021 as I had initially requested bearing in mind, that I provided evidence of my illness throughout last year and was under the impression that when I was being told "Don't worry" that that meant that they were going to backdate the award from 3 months of the initial date it was due back, JUly 2021, and possible longer to February as I had requested.

Can I ask now 4 months later for it to be relooked at or is there no point?

Thank you

My query is that when I rang up in July and was told "Don't Worry", I assumed that it would be backdated beyond July as I had requested. My illness prevented me getting the form in sooner as I was bedbound and exhausted for much of 2021.

Hi Jane

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Unfortunately you cannot backdate a WCA form, unlike a PIP application form you cannot ask for an extension to complete the form, if your form is not on time then it will lapse and you have to apply again. This is why it is important to send WCA forms in on time, when you do send it in, always send it by registered post so that you have proof of posting.

When you contacted DWP to let them know you would be late with your claim they might not have lapsed your claim but your claim would not start until they had received your application form.

Once you have had your assessment, if eligible your either placed in the LCW or LCWRA group (LCWRA was formally known as the support group)( LCW was formally known as WRAG ).
