Hi Everyone

looking for some support/advice if anyone knows the process of being on benefits and ready to adventure back into employment.

I have been receiving PIP ESA (Support group) since 2015, and myself been through all the torment of medicals and forms, I had support workers at the time who where brilliant at getting me through these . I would now like to get back into work, I have just enrolled doing volunteer work just now, in a social cafe for the elderly .

where do you begin, I know off an organization that can support me when in work, but they aren't clued up really when it came to benefits , I don't trust the job center , I feel if I went back into these places they will see me as target to hurry me back off benefits boosting there unemployed levels down , I can easily be intimidated by these folks and places and feel I will end up back at square one

I am looking for only small hours just now so i can still receive some benefits, would I need to apply for a different type , who s the best person i can turn to to discuss this stuff ?? I need a step by step on how to go about what

Its all so daunting, i don't want to end up back at the start if i make the wrong decision for myself, as we all know the trauma these forms ,meetings and calls can cause

Appreciate your time

thanks

HEATHER

Hi Bluebells71

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I would advise you to seek advice before you do anything from a Welfare Rights Organisation.

You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

Before you stop your benefits think about permitted work.

There is a guide to Permitted Work in our ESA section. permitted Work

You need to consider whether the work you would do, paid or voluntary contradicts the reasons that you have been placed in the SG, as a deliberately silly example; if you decided to be a postman delivering the mail and you had been placed in the SG due to your mobility problems then this would be an issue.

You need to be particularly careful if you have been placed in the SG under the Exceptional Circumstances regulations as these are specifically about your ability to do what is called Work Related Activity.

Voluntary work tends to be less demanding and offers more flexibility than a paid job. Be careful to check that it is voluntary work (usually for a charity or same), rather than unpaid work, the two are not the same.

If you start paid or voluntary work then you need to notify the DWP, it should not trigger a reassessment but you doing the work will be noted on your file when it is next sent for assessment.
