ESA contribution based and rental income

Hi there,
I am currently receiving ESA CB support group benefit and receive rental income from 2 inherited properties. I also inherited a lump sum and want to invest in another property to rent out. Will this effect my benefit in any way, i.e. would this be then classed as a business? I am in the support group of ESA, and will be purchasing the property through a property lettings agency who will also manage the property on my behalf. Could you please advise?

Many thanks.
M.

Hi Mary

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.

Welcome to Benefits and Work

First of all, if you are only receiving Contribution Based ESA then there are no capital limits and the inheritance will not affect your ESA.

You may want to get advice from your local Welfare Rights organisation, You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

however i thought the income received would be classified as work income and may be taken into account, check with a welfare officer
