Does this mean I don't need an assessment for my PIP claim?

I submitted my claim form just before Christmas and have been waiting ever since to hear about an assessment appointment. I phoned DWP the other week and was told my paperwork was with the medical assessors.

Then yesterday, I received a text from the DWP saying they had received the written report of my PIP assessment and they will write to me when they've made a decision. Given that I never had a medical assessment, does this mean that they decided they had enough to go on and I don't need one, or have they just made a mistake?

I did include quite a bit of evidence: several professional reports, statements from family members and I answered the questions in quite a lot of detail as per advice on this website etc.

I was absolutely dreading the assessment (I am autistic) so hope this means I don't have to have one, and it's not a mistake!
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Hi Sharon

It does sound as if they have done a paper-based assessment and are now waiting upon the decision-maker. So it sounds like you have avoided a telephone assessment. These things are never 100 per cent certain until you hear, but I believe you can be quietly optimistic.

Hi Sharon, let's hope BIS is right and they have indeed done a paper based. Anyway now you can call [or get someone to call for you if you find it difficult having autism]- and request your PA3 assessment report [if they did one at all]. It's worth having it to understand their thinking, just in case and for future reference.
Best wishes,
