‘Proposed’ Warm Home Discount Scheme

If you fancy a bit of light reading: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/governm...-discount-reform.pdf

The proposal is that you will only be eligible (for the Warm Home Discount Scheme) if you are in receipt of a means tested benefit. Pension Credit has you in the Core Group 1. Other things, Core Group 2.

If you have a disabled child, but do not receive a means tested benefit, tough s***.. ditto if you are receiving DLA/PIP but NOT a means tested benefit as well..

Core criteria 2 will be ‘at the discretion’ of each Energy Provider (which I think is the case at the moment). This Criteria will be different every year, and decided by the Government….

The legislation (if/when passed) will only last until 2026… then what??
The concerning part for me is that there doesn’t seem to be any mandatory provision….

It has not gone through parliament yet. It is at the ‘consultation’ stage.
There will also be ‘energy saving criteria’ which all seems very muddled. So if you have a ‘leaky’ house in terms of insulation you may be treated differently to a ‘well insulated’ one..
