Extra Heating Allowance

Am on Pension Credit Guarantee, with a council tax discount and housing benefit. As I already receive the Warm Home Discount automatically, plus the £200 a year pensioners heating allowance. Can we still claim for the extra £150 help with heating which is being offered households in council tax bands A-D, which I am in that band? Do not want to fill in any forms because I am certain I will get into trouble for fraud or if I am sent it will have to pay it back. Can anyone clafify things for me.

I do get the full council tax support, so do not have to pay anything by direct debit or otherwise. I did receive a letter but it seems to be only for anyone who pays by direct debit. The letter says to go onto the council website but sadly, could not make sense of it. I shall perservere with telephoning them. Did try to but sat there for ages trying to get through to someone. Shall have another try when I feel less daunted by it all.

Just got through to council tax dept on the telephone and yes, you were right. The person that I spoke with verified that I shall be receiving a letter in mid-April inviting me to claim. So thanks again Gary.

Hi Lesley, I received a letter from my council with this year’s C.Tax (award) statement. As you, I had doubts as I also receive full C.Tax benefit. Apparently, if you pay for your C.Tax by DD they will credit your C.Tax account. For me (as I don’t pay) I will have to furnish my bank details, and they will make a direct payment into that. I have to wait until Monday 4th April to apply online.

Hopefully it will be a straight forward process. Still won’t actually believe it until it comes into my account..
Unfortunately many others in our circumstances may not apply because of this uncertainty. Murky info is very annoying and cuts a lot of people out of things to which they are entitled.
