My condition is deteriorating and I called to discuss with DWP regarding the Standard Rate PIP I am currently receiving. I was told that if I requested an assessment of my new condition this would be called an "unplanned intervention" and effectively a new application. Does anyone have experience of this process?
An unplanned intervention is when a PIP claimant reports that their condition has changed - as in your case. They normally send out a PIP2 form - which is the big one you would have filled in, in the first place. You will need to provide medical evidence showing the decline and that it has occurred since your PIP award was made and then how you are affected by that change. You may well have an assessment and then the DWP will then decide whether a higher award is warranted.
You need to be aware that this will be a full re-assessment of your claim, if you were awarded both components (Daily Living and Mobility), then it may be possible to limit the review to just the one, assuming that this is the case, but the DWP can extend it to both if they feel justified and can make any decision on your claim that they feel is appropriate.
