Do PiP ever give a negative decision over the phone? was created by lauren
Hi, I had my assessment two weeks ago and couldn’t help but ring in and ask if there was a decision. She was very nice and said there wasn’t,although my case was being looked at at the moment and I should know quite soon.
My question is, if it’s a no would she have told me? I know they can tell people if it’s a yes and the details. But if it’s a no would they still tell you?
I wondered if any one had been told of a decline Pip over the phone?
Thanks

Hi Lauren
I have never heard of anyone being given a negative decision over the phone - but that doesn't mean it has never happened.

Hi lauren
When you phoned the DWP you should have asked for a copy of the assessors report, you could then work out whether or not your claim will be successful.
I had a client last week who thought she was turned down, got hold of the assessors report PA4, it turned out she would be awarded enhanced mobility and std daily living from what the assessors had reported. This turned out to be what the claimant was awarded which she was happy with.

Hi Lauren
Unfortunately I have been told that I was not entitled to PIP over the phone! I hasten to add though that I subsequently I appealed and was not only awarded PIP but it was awarded "indefinitely!"
This was a few years ago now and before lockdown. Following the face to face assessment I asked the DWP for a copy of the assessor's report - as Gary has recommended you do - and it was very clear to me that if the DWP decision maker followed what the assessor had put in her report then I would be turned down for PIP! I then phoned DWP to ask then if they had made a decision. The person I spoke to - who I have to say was perfectly pleasant - said yes they had. I then asked him if he could tell me and he then started to read from the decision letter I was yet to receive. Even though I was expecting it it was still a shock to hear that I'd been turned down. The person I was speaking to of course was not the PIP decision maker. He was very sympathetic and I got the decision letter no more than a few days after I'd phoned in.
All's well that ends well in my case but it is important that you be aware that you can't conclude that you either have - or haven't - been awarded PIP simply because the person you spoke to hasn't said anything! one way or the other! Remember also that in my case I'd already asked for, and received, a copy of the medical report and that when I phoned the DWP they had already made a decision. Also of course I actually ASKED them if they could tell me the result over the phone, who knows if they would have done so if I hadn't!
All this said though I devoutly hope you will be awarded PIP and also that in the meantime you will ask for the assessment report as recommended by Gary.
Good luck!
Mr B
