What to claim, I’m confused was created by Alisonann
Good afternoon, could you advise me on what myself and husband can claim. My husband claims esa for both of us at the moment, we both claim carers for each other, and are both on pip enhanced rate for care and mobility. My husband reaches state pension age in September this year but I am 59 and not due for state pension for another seven years, so what do we claim when esa stops and what happens with our carers allowance.

Hi Alisonann Your husband's state pension will replace his ESA - I can't tell you what will happen to the bit which covers you. Your PIP will continue and so should your carers allowance. What else you can claim is outside the remit of this forum and you would need to speak to a specialist welfare advisor. I have included a link for you to find one in your area. advicelocal.uk/ BIS

Hi Alisonann
Depending on your circumstances you might have to claim UC, as you are classed as a mixed age couple, benefit entitlement is now based on the youngest of a couple.
You do need to seek help from a Welfare Rights Organisation as any answer to which benefits to claim would depend on who was the original claimant yourself or your husband.
Follow BIS link to find your local WRO.

Hi thank you for your reply, my husband has managed to speak to welfare rights, and have told him that he will have to claim his state pension, and I will have to claim uc, she has also said that she will help us to fill in the forms when and if needed.
Thanks again
