Am I being underpaid Universal Credit was created by dscottieb
Dear Benefits and Work

I would like to thank you for all the hard work that you do, helping people. I feel I am being underpaid UC I transitioned over from ESA last year in May. Below I am going to paste an email which has been sent to UC and CAB yesterday, I was hoping you could also help me out, please read email below:

Dear CAB

Please could you help with my universal credit? I think I'm being underpaid.

I was getting ESA and the SDP and I am in the support group.

ESA £856.26 per month (395.20 every 2 weeks)

My two children came to live with me in May 2021 and I had to transition over to universal credit as it was the only way to claim benefits for my children. I was told that when I move over that I would not lose out on any money and I would get a transitional payment to make it the same amount that I was getting on ESA £856.26 per month. This was all fine. I transitioned over and worked it all out and I was about £4 worse off each month which I wasn't bothered about, when I swapped over to UC everyone was receiving a £20 a week uplift payment which works out to £86 a month.

so this what they were paying me per month:

Standard allowance £324.84
LCWRA £343.63
Transitional payment £97.84
£20 week uplift £86
Total £852.31 which was basically what I was getting when I was on ESA £856.26 like i said above.

This £20 a week uplift has now stopped and has been for a while, £852.31 - £86 = £766.31 is now what I'm getting for myself per month. So I moved over to universal credit and I am now worse off, I was getting £856.26 per month on ESA, I'm now getting £766.31 on UC which means I'm being paid £89.95 short each month.

To make things worse my rent went up in April not by a lot about £15 pound a month, instead of increasing my housing benefit they took this increase from my transitional payment. Also for some reason I now have to pay council tax also, I paid £64 today and I have to pay £42 every other month, I have never missed a payment and I don't know what is going on I phoned them and they didn't explain anything

I'm also claiming PIP as I have various disabilities, please could someone help me out with all this please

Hi dscottieb

I hate to be the bringer of bad news but your query is outside the remit of the forum.

You can check by putting your information into one of the online benefit calculators.

Alternatively you can contact your local Welfare Rights Organisation who will be able to help you. You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk
