Backdated Money was created by Agnes
My husband was recently awarded PIP, he was on DLA mobility component, not care component. We waited four months for the award and was not given any backdated money. I phoned and was told that because he was on DLA he was not entitled to backdated money. I understand that his mobility component was already being paid through DLA but expected care component of PIP to be backdated. Can you advise please. I am a member.

Hi Agnes

It sounds as if your husband has been migrated from DLA to PIP and therefore there is no backdated money due.

Hi
David wasn’t migrated over from DLA, we made a new claim for PIP ourselves due to his condition deteriorating and he needed financial help for his care. He was awarded care component which I thought should have been backdated as this is the first time he has had Care Component. Thank You

Hi Agnes

Okay - sorry. Are you saying that the money only started from the date of your decision letter and not on the date your husband applied for PIP?

I'm afraid it does not matter who initiated the transfer from DLA to PIP, there is no backdating of any increased award.

If DLA was in payment at the time that the PIP claim was made then it is covered by the Transfer legislation and this prescribes that the PIP award is to start 4 weeks after the PIP Decision is made, there are no exceptions.
