Attending PIP assessment with family member

I may be paranoid but I have been on benefits for some years. A family member is now applying for PIP and would like me to attend the assessment with her. Will I have to give my name ? I am worried they might look me up and look at my claim again. I have nothing to hide but I am paranoid because anything to do with benefits fills me with terror. Would I have to give my name ?

Hi Squirrel

If it is a telephone assessment then unless your relative expects you to talk for them then you can just be there for them to give support, then no you will not have to give your name.

If the assessor knows you are there, then they may ask for you name and in what capacity are you there, such as are you there for support and why?

They will not look you up, there can be many people with the same name, especially if it is a common name.

Squirrel,

I attended my husband’s PIP face to face appointment three years ago and they asked for my name and relationship to the claimant.
A note was made of this which appears on the health professionals report under ‘The following individual attended the consultation with the claimant’.

That’s all. It’s just an acknowledgment that the claimant isn’t alone so don’t worry about it.
