Pip renewal no mobility was created by pauls1
Hello ...my wife has just had her pip renewal and enhanced rate but no mobility ...she never has had the mobility component but was reading it should be given for bipolar and depression which sh has had for a lot of years ....I'm just wondering iff you can apply for the mobility component only and iff she is likely to get it
Thanks

Hi pauls1,
PIP is awarded on the basis that due to your health condition you are unable to do the specified PIP descriptor activities. Although your wife has bipolar this won't automatically mean she is eligible for PIP mobility. Have a look at the members guides and think how your wife's health problems affect her mobility. Think whether she can go out somewhere unaided, does she get lost, does she get panicky and become unwell? Maybe you can give examples of what goes wrong when she goes out. If your wife has poor walking ability think about how far she can go what prevents her going further is she out of breath, in pain? Does she have falls or stumbles does she walk awkwardly or slowly?
Think about safety, reasonable time, repetition and acceptable standard for both walking ability and making journeys. What happens fir the majority of days?
If you believe that your wife can clearly fit within a descriptor that gives at least 8 points or at least 4 points from both mobility descriptors then you could ask DWP for a Reconsideration and send in a letter explaining all of the above, together with any further medical evidence or a statement from you or other carers.
There is no point applying if your wife can not score sufficient points.
Since your wife has recently had a renewal it is unlikely that DWP will require a further assessment or revise their recent award, but it is possible albeit unlikely.
I hope this helps.
