Call about a payment was created by mel0308
Hi BaW,
Well it appears I have been awarded some level of PIP! This is my first claim and they did a paper based assessment which I found out last week when I got a text message. I’ve just had a call to say they were about to make a payment to me. The assessor said he couldn’t give me any details, but wanted to check I had someone to support me as a payment would be going into my bank account and they had noted I have some difficulties with budgeting decisions. Firstly, is this ‘usual practice’, and secondly, is there any way I can find out the level of award I have been given before the letter eventually arrives as my anxiety has gone into overdrive!!
Whilst I don’t know what I’ve been awarded yet, I don’t think I would have got anything without all the advice, guides and information from BAW. I will update you when I know more…
Thanks again,
Mel0308

Hi mel0308

The assessor - cannot tell you what has been awarded as it is the decision-maker who does that. You could ring and ask for a copy of the assessment report - which is a PA3 for a paper-based assessment The report will only give you an idea of what you have been awarded, but the final decision comes when the award letter is sent. You shouldn't have to wait very long. Glad to hear of your good news.

Thanks for your reply BIS. I can’t recall what they said their title was as my husband answered the call for me. ‘Assessor’ is probably my word, not theirs. The call came from the PIP helpline so would that be the DWP rather than the health assessment people? Will the PIP helpline tell me if I phone them or can’t they say over the phone? Thanks again for your patience in answering all my questions!

Hi mel0308

DWP will not tell you over the phone, quite often when the payment goes in to your bank, you can work it out unless the award includes a back pay in which case you usually have to wait for the second payment to go into your bank a/c.

As BIS has stated in her post, it is always good to have a copy of the assessors report as it will give you an indication of what you may be awarded, but that will be up to the decision maker not the assessor. Usually the decision maker will follow what the assessor has recommend.

Hi mel0308,

Just to say, I phoned the DWP once before to chase things up and was told an award had been made and what levels the decision maker had given me.

I don't remember being told an amount, but a quick Google search confirmed this.

I might have been lucky in getting a co-operative call handler, but I was definitely told over the phone. This was four years ago.

Regards,

Phrank.
