Tips from others re PIP for depression and anxiety

I'm currently working on my mandatory reconsideration for PIP having scored no points. I'm using the guides provided by this site but it would be good to get any tips or suggestions from others here who have successfully managed to claim PIP on mental health grounds. Depression and social anxiety are my two biggest issues and have a huge impact on me. I don't work because of them and I spent most of my time at home. I wont give my life story but it would be great to hear from similar people and any advice you have, especially if you initially were turned down for PIP :)

Hi Tom, You will need to back up these assertions with medical evidence. Get a copy of your GP notes and go through since birth and highlight any MH (mental health) issues. Contact any services you have had contact with over the years and ask them for a statement, with dates on headed paper as to when and how often you used their service: Counselling/ CBT/ Group Work etc.

You are the one that will have to put the work in I’m afraid. Basically they will not believe you unless you can provide ‘proof of input’ from your GP/ IAPTS/ or other services. Good luck.

Hi Tom , our daughter has several physical conditions but also depression and anxiety. And yes we had to go to Tribunal the first and second time to get her due award. Not the third time as thanks to B&W here I wrote in to take the rubbish PA3 paper assessment report apart before the Decision Maker [DM] got to it.
My suggestion is that you either try to keep a diary as per the examples in the Guide or if you have a helpful friend/relative get them involved. They need to try to phone you most days and just make a sentence or so [unless there's reason to write more] of notes about whether you even picked up or not, and what mood state you were in. A week or two of that is hugely powerful evidence, I did it for our daughter and just put it in a table of columns in Libre office or 'word'.

ive been turned down at every attemp,t except my last one, that was because i was starting a treatment at that time, and had overwhelming evidence from lots of sources, i didn't even get contacted and was awarded low rate on both

but now the dreaded letter has landed and my position isn't as 'strong' (if you want to put it that way) as before to keep the claim going, regardless of being told to "ring samaritans" once when asking for advice on a legal board,,, thats how bad iam! I haven't been to see my GP for a while as he retired and has been replaced by a female GP and my anxiety has me even too scared to face her....

Hi Tom,

The charity MIND offer support and help for those suffering with anxiety and depression, they have supported me at various tribunals which have been successful.
Worth having a look to see if you have a local welfare and benefits branch in your area. I have always found them kind and sympathetic plus they know their stuff when it comes to the DWP and how they operate.
