ACCESSING YOUR GP PATIENT RECORDS - CAUTION!

Hello

Do most people here know that they can access their own medical records held by their GP/Medical Practice?

It is a very useful source of corroborating information and supporting documentation that claimants are/have been in contact with their GP/nurse/health practitioner about their ongoing health issues etc. Also, it is possible to provide a history of medications that may have been prescribed.

If you choose to access your medical information in this way, a word of caution, CHECK THOROUGHLY FOR ACCURACY before deciding to use it.

I have recently been in touch with various GP's at my own Medical Practice which has morphed into a 'Super Hub' None of the numerous GP's/Locums/Paramedics/Physio Therapists/Health Care Assistance etc etc etc know either myself or my complicated medical/surgical history and despite reassurances that any "Health Care Professional will know my history" believe me they don't. Following several consultations I've had either in person, or by phone, on accessing my records from home, there are some glaring inaccuracies. As I am not at my best at the moment and as I don't rely on the information held by/at my Medical Practice, I have opted not to challenge the misinformation at this time, but thought I would share with my fellow B&W family.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Sue C C,

I am sorry to hear about your experiences with your GP practice.

I guessed GP surgeries would be going the same way as dental practices in-so-much as they would eventually merge into one super-practice with little or no human intervention and everything being done by phone or video call.

This obviously makes it more difficult to obtain accurate medical reports or supporting letters as, as you point out, no-one actually knows you.

Sad times but that's the way things are going.

It further enhances the theory that one day there will be only one company running the entire planet.

Arggggh!!!!

Regards,

Phrank.

Your medical records comprise your GP records, your hospital records (maybe from more than 1), your Public Health records (vaccinations, etc usually done through school and not covid), your optician's records, and your dental records and they don't all use the same IT system.
