Slightly confused, but mods may know different

Good Evening Mods (and everyone else on B&W),

I`m slightly confused. Quick overview:

Applied for PIP in Dec 21; awarded enhanced daily and 4 points for mobility in early April.

Applied for a Mandatory Reconsideration late April; results received early June: no change (expected).

Submitted a tribunal appeal early July with a response date for DWP of 8th August. No response from DWP (expected).

Contacted HMCTS to clarify what would happen now DWP had missed the response date; told that HMCTS were reviewing all appeals
21 days after the response date, which would make 29th August the date DWP had to respond by. 29th August came and went; no response which wasn`t really unexpected.

Today I checked my bank account and there is an entry from DWP PIP to be paid tomorrow (8th Sept). There is a difference of £1.12 between the amount in my account and that suggested by the PIP calculator with the following inputs:
Start date: 14th December 2021
End Date: 22nd August 2022
Mobility: No mobility to enhanced

This is where my confusion comes in:
I`ve had no telephone calls from DWP trying to buy my soul with "you can have this if you stop the appeal" and I`ve had no letter explaining the reason for the payment (and that`s now not going to be delivered until at least Saturday 10th due to the postal strikes (maybe even later)).

I`ve trawled multiple forums on DWP to see if this has happened before, but I can`t find anything.

Have you heard of this in your time giving advice on here (and possibly giving advice as a profession)?

I`m not going to complain if DWP have decided to review my documents again and award me enhanced mobility without me having to go through the "experience" of a tribunal. It`s only speculation at this point, but I`m leaning towards being relieved because the evidence does point to DWP having reviewed of my application (possibly prompted by the tribunal request).

Thank you,

Andy

Hi Andrew,

I am aware of several instances where DWP hasn't sent any form of notification and money has simply appeared in an account marked DWP PIP as the payer.

Presumably you have the enhanced daily living and now enhanced mobility in your account? The small discrepancy could be due to rounding errors, or possibly uprating amounts which happens each April. Did you receive any back pay?

I suspect that the tribunal has told DWP to get a move on, DWP has then reviewed the papers with a view to sorting out the pel bundle. Then, it has revised its decision. The computer gets updated and you may have been lucky that this coincided with the next computer payment date. In the meantime, it may take longer to physically generate print and sign a letter, then it gets held up in a mail strike.

I suggest you wait until perhaps the end of next week, and then if no letter, you contact DWP nd so them to clarify the decision and send letter if nothing sent already. Check the back pay, you should have received back pay to the start of claim in December 2021.

It sounds like good news anyhow, so well done!

Hi Andrew,

All I keep reading lately are instances of the DWP's incompetence and the implications this has on peoples' lives.

I realise that it is a huge organisation and inevitably things will go wrong occasionally. The sad thing is that it always seems to be at the unfortunate expense of the claimant causing needless stress and anxiety.

I wish they could get it right most of the time.

In your case it looks like you've got your head together and worked out the answer. I hope you have not suffered too much stress as a result.

It does sound like good news so well done to you!

Regards,

Phrank.

Hi LL26,

Thank you for replying.

I do indeed have Daily Living at the enhanced rate.
The money in my account is, I belive, back pay to December 14th. To this day, I`ve only received the DL enhanced rate every 4 weeks.

I will wait a week and then call DWP for verification (if no letter received before then).
It does sound like good news and any well done is down to the excellent documentation provided by B&W in combination with the advice given by yourself and Gary and Graham and.... I`m afraid I can`t remember any more names (sorry).

When I know for sure, I`ll be back to let people know.

Thank you,
Andy

Hello again,

A quick update.

I`ve still not received a letter as of today (20th Sept), so I phoned DWP (only waited 45 minutes to get through, so was happy with that) and spoke to a helpful young man.
I have been awarded Enhanced Mobility and the letter has been sent. He also read a couple of lines from the letter:
(Words to this effect) We`ve awarded you Enhance Mobility backdated to December 14th (when I applied) instead of going to Tribunal and he also quickly stated "ongoing". On asking him to confirm ongoing he said yes, a review after a few years.
I`ll wait until I see the letter, but if that is the case, I`ve gone from DL Enh & Mob 4 points with a review early 2025 to DL Enh, Mob Enh and ongoing. A triple whammy!
When I`ve received my letter and therefore can confirm everything, I`ll let you know.
Once again, thank you for your excellent help.
Andy
