Thanks for your reply I gave examples but I think they miss understood and stereotyped ocd as only a contamination condition which is isn't. Mine is more based on symmetry numbers touching etc which means it takes me ages to get dressed and washed etc, 2 hours a day in the bath, and over 30 mins to get dressed due to the rituals, they wrote that as I don't have broken skin I must be ok I will reiterate that I am unable to do these tasks in a reasonable time, however I guess its unclear what is deemed a reasonable time. I know others have been in similar situation and I was sure it's common to happen but I wasn't prepared for the emotional impact of it all. What saddens me most is that their reply is so weak and flawed they have not understood that ssri is first choice anxiety meds which makes me question why they have been able to comment on my medical situation it's almost laughable. I will stick to facts. Do you know what constitutes a reasonable time I get dressed over 4 times repeating the process until it feels OK and the anxiety goes down.

Hi Alz1995

You ask how long it takes for someone to get dressed - and I was going to say I don't know - but I googled it. And according to a survey done by Marks and Spencer it is 17 minutes. alexaanswers.amazon.com/question/5eONeBv...gh%20our%20wardrobes. - I can't find a copy of the original poll, but if you are getting dressed 4 times it will take you far longer than 17 minutes, and it will cause you a great deal more stress than a person without OCD.

I'm not surprised you despair that they think because you don't have broken skin, you're okay - some people wash until their skin is almost flaking off and others don't, but the impact on your mental health can be equally destructive because you're not able to break the ritual.

Hi Alz1995,
I suspect you may have done this before, but I think you might need to repeat this. I think it would be a good idea for you to write a diary over the next few days. There is ordinarily a month to send in the MR request, but if you have a reasonable excuse you can send this in up to 13 moths after the decision date. So don't worry about being late, it is important to get everything right.
Get a few blank pieces of paper or a notebook. Write down exactly what happens over the day. Be brutally honest and check times if you can.
Write down exactly what you do when the OCD strikes. This is an example I have made up, which might be the sort of thing you could write.
Woke up 7.30am. Bathroom walked to the basin then back to the bed 3 times. The bed is 15ft from the basin. Then take off pyjamas, fold them neatly put on the chair in the bathroom. Run bath. Water has to come up to 12 inches deep. I measure this 4 times. I test temperature it has to be 34° . If the water is too hot I have to add cold, and that means I have to check the temperature again. It usually takes 15 minutes to get the depth and temperature correct. Before I get in I have to arrange the soap, flannel and shampoo in a straight line along the left side of the bath. Then I get in. I first wash my left arm and left leg etc etc etc
Describe the whole process for bathing, then for dressing, cooking, including tidying afterwards. If every day is the same, then one day of diary will be OK. If not what happens on other days. What can go wrong.
Describe all of these things, and of course the way you do PIP activities and how the other things might affect these. I think this will show the constant struggles you have.
This is only suggestion, but this is the sort of things I will write to explain for clients, that can't do PIP activities due to a whole lot of other troubles going on.
I hope this helps.

Hi BIS

I thought to myself that 17 minutes sounds an awful long time to put your jeans and T-shirt on in the morning. It takes me less than 5 mins to slap on my Jeans, t-shirt and if it is winter a jumper. I did some research into the M&S survey saying that it takes 17 minutes to get dressed. I think it was mainly focused of career women who spend ages in the wordrobe trying to find something that matches etc. Here is a article that describes the survey better. www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/people-parties/...ime-choosing-outfit/

Thanks guys for your replies and all the helpful information I will do the diary entries are really make it clear how long it all takes as I really think they need it explained in great detail. It's so hard when you already have issues to have to take them apart I send all my medical info in but I hate reading it all. I feel better today, it was the initial shock of their reply but ie told myself that I shouldn't be upset as they show a complete lack of understanding of my condition and to say I am not on anyianxiety meds when I am on the highest dose 200mg of sertraline is just ridiculous. I knew this would happen but as I said before you can't prepare yourself for how it feels emotionally to be judged in this way. Thanks again all.

Hi Alz1995, they said our daughter's max Tramadol for pain was "moderate" But I sent back a copy of the NHS webpage showing it is for severe pain. And they backed down. So do not be downhearted about having to call out these sort of tricks. Just remember never to suggest they lied or did these things deliberately, as this, um, gets then going! say stuff like, 'appears not to have noted that...' 'may not have read...'
Best wishes,
Denby
