PIP Awarded from Date of Assessment not Date of Claim

Applied for PIP in April. Had assessment in September and awarded standard care/ enhanced mobility, one point off enhanced care but I am not well enough to go through a challenge at this time.

However, the DWP have clearly made an error as they have put the start of the award as the date of the assessment (this month) not the date of claim (April). I called them (it too 5 Hours of waiting and repeatedly being cut off, once after waiting 90 mins) & explained this.

They said they would send it to the decision maker to sort it out. I asked for a mandatory review but they refused and said I couldn't ask for one if all I was challenging was the date of the decision. I am not sure I've been given correct info about this by them.

Anyway I'm just seeking advice as to whether I just allow them to correct the error (it's been a week already and heard nothing) or whether I do something else.

Surely there should be systems in place to stop this sort of thing from happening- if it's this easy, I can't be the first.

Thanks :)

Providing this was a new claim for PIP and not a transfer from DLA to PIP or a review of an existing award, then the award should be backdated to the date of the claim unless there was some reason that you did not meet the 3 month historical requirement at that time in which case the award should be dated from the date that you finally did.

You most certainly can raise an MR against the Start Date of the award, it is part of the Decision and therefore subject to MR and appeal. However, you might want to wait and see what this DM says, it will certainly be quicker if it can be resolved without the need for an MR.

Thanks Gordon, yes it is a new claim and I've got the report, I did meet the three month requirement, it's just an error.

I'm just worried that if they don't correct it soon I will have lost out on putting in a mandatory review
