NEW DIAGNOSED CHRONIC ILLNESS was created by MrFibro
Hi to mods, and to all.
Just a quickie, i have just had a 3 month spell of a chest infection, which antibiotics cleared it up. After being sent for X-Rays on chest, i was sent after for CT Scans on chest area. My GP called me into the surgery to tell me the results of my ct scans.
Doc said that i have been diagnosed with bronchiecstatis, a chronic lung condition.
My question is this: should i notify the DWP about this ? or should i just wait and disclose it as fresh evidence when my next ESA and pip review is due ?
I know that dwp ar'nt interested in a decline in one's health.
As pip has supposingly been put on a 12 month hold it would be better to leave it a while until i get more evidence from my hospitals respiratory specialist etc , than to include this with my bundle of 100's of all ready sent out documented evidence.
Thanks in advance.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi MrFibro
The first question I would ask you is what rate of PIP are you on, if you are already on the enhanced components then then reporting a worsening condition will not make any difference, so why put yourself through it?
You can mention it when you are next reviewed.
If you are on standard then you may want to put in for a change of circumstances, but remember new conditions may not give you the extra points you require.
You have to weigh up your options?

Hi,
Gary, thanks for your reply. I'm on pip standard rates for both components. and ESA support group.
Just another quick question! if a claimant like myself has waited / or would had been waiting over 24 months for their pip review to had been reviewed. When this is completed and i was awarded say enhanced rates on one component or both, would this mean the DWP will back pay me over 24 months of pip monies they owe me?
As it's their fault they did not assess me for my pip review back in september 2021 ! surely it cant be my fault right ?
Thanks for reading.

Hi MrFibro
Unless you requested a change of circs, then your new claim would start from the date of the decision not the date when you sent in the form.
This is like a double edged sword for those claimants who loose their award, then is no overpayment, the award ends on the date of the decision, for claimants who are successful, whilst waiting for a decision their initial award will still be in payment whilst waiting for a new decision.
If someones condition has worsen over time then they may want to request a change of circumstances, so that if they are successful it should be backdated to when they made the request, we always advise the claimant to follow up the request in writing. We do warn claimants that they could loose what they already have.
