I've been on carers allowance and Child tax credits for years. I have received an unexpected letter from inland Revenue saying they are looking at my case, they believe I am on carers allowance and may need to adjust my tax credits award. I have not had any change of circumstances and have always declared carers allowance income every year, yet the letter was worded like this was going to change things for me. Not sure what to do or if others have had the same letter?
We don't deal with Tax Credits on the forum so I am limited on the information I can supply.
It sounds, despite your previous declarations of having a CA claim in payment, that this has not been registered by HMRC and as a result they may be thinking that you may have been overpaid your TC's.
You don't mention what action may follow on from this letter, does it say?
