PIP Online application - "Sorry, there is a problem!" message

Hi,

I have filled in all the sections of the PIP online application. This includes all the questions, additional information and the last step which is to upload the supporting evidence. When I finally go to submit the online application, I get a message 'Sorry there is a problem! Your information could not be sent.' I am then told to call the helpline if the problem persists. I have logged out and logged in again and performed the last step of uploading the evidence several times with no success.

I have called the DWP helpline and they said if there is a problem with the online submission then all they can do is send out a paper form. I will then have to transfer all the information across to the paper application. This seems crazy!

Has anybody else come across this error message or had similar problems with submitting their PIP application online?

I read that @MuttonJeff found that there was a limit of 5000 characters when entering data online. I will go back and check if any of my entries are in excess of 5000. The message reported by the online application does not give you any details and hence I do not know what to correct!

Thanks for any help.

Hi Johnny

I'm sorry this has happened to you. I can't comment on what has happened with the online application. I hope you're able to resolve it, but if you can't I'm afraid you will have to resort to paper.

Hello Jonny
Sorry to hear about the issues you are having, I'm the SUE CC that shared my experience of trying to complete the Online PIP application with MuttonJeff. Not exactly sure if this is of any use now, I started my application back in August 2019, but I had to actually email a request to initiate the process. The contact team address was

Might it be possible to email them and ask, assuming there is such a team in 2022? They must have a DWP Digital team at least for when things go pear shape and computer says NO. Just a thought.

Hello Sue CC,

Thanks for the reply and the information. I also assumed there must be some technical support team that can help when things go pear shaped with the online application.

I will try the DWP helpline again and see if they can direct me to such a team. Otherwise, I'll email the team you suggested.

I have checked all my entries are under 5000 characters, as I know this was an issue for MuttonJeff.

I have also backed up all my entries to Evernote ( which is a note taking application similar to MS Word). So perhaps, one solution might be to re-start a fresh online application and paste in the entries. Apparently you can start the Online Application again if you supply an alternative email address.

I'll update this topic if I find a solution and/or technical support team.

Thanks,
John

Oh no that's exactly what I'm dreading, I'm sorry you're having this issue. When the error message flags up make sure to take and save a screenshot as evidence.
I've managed to get 2 week extension to complete my application. There's no way I can write it all out, I have thumb arthritis!
Like you I found it best to prepare a word document (mines Pages in Macbook which is a horrible thing) and copy and paste the info over. You would have got a red message about exceeding 5000 or whatever number characters and the box won't save, so if your information is showing it has saved it OK.
I can't believe the error message you had didn't give any indication of the problem, that's appalling but not unexpected! All I could suggest is logging out again, and then leaving your submission until a very quiet time, very late night or early am in case it's their servers or something getting overloaded. I have so many different issues, and a lot of documents so I won't be surprised if I get issues sending it through. let us know how you get on.

Morning Johnny

It would be great to get an update on how to contact the DWP online. Common sense suggests that if you offer an online service such as the PIP2 application etc, you would also have a digital team to provide technical support for those PearShaped issues which quite clearly people are experiencing. Wishing you well in your application process
